"A world star returns home" is the first ever comprehensive exhibition about Romy Schneider in Schönau am Königssee and is the world's only permanent exhibition from private collections on Romy & Magda Schneider there!
Romy, most famous for her role as "Sissi", lived the first 11 years of her childhood in this area. Rosemarie Magdalena Albach, which was her real name, spent many years of her childhood in her parent's home, house "Mariengrund" in the community of Schönau, nearby famous lake Königssee. Later, as an actress, she loved to return to this place and visit her mother Magda Schneider, who lived there until her death in 1996. Gisela Schubert, a highly ambitious collector and supposedly one of Romy`s greatest fans, tells us why she has been admiring this actress for such a long time and eagerly collected everything regarding Romy Schneider`s life (1938 - 1982):
"As 'the last empress', 'the Goddess of the century', 'the passerby of Lake Königssee' or whatever she was called she enchanted the entire nation, including me of course. For more than 50 years this amazing and extraordinary actress has been a permanent part of my life. Her talent, her natural beauty, her extraordinary charisma... I have always been fascinated by this woman, even so at a very early stage of my life. For this reason I started collecting everything that is associated with Romy Schneider: film postcards and programs, posters, photos, many accessories, magazines and so on. All over the world I participated in film fairs where I had the opportunity to meet highly interested, like-minded people for never-ending discussions about the life of Romy Schneider. Beyond that I am very proud having had the opportunity gotten to know face-to-face Sarah Biasini and Magda Schneider."
