Town on the Salzach river
What a city! From the 9th century on, the transportation of the white gold on the Salzach and Saalach rivers brought the town of Laufen wealth and prestige. The ornamental wrought-iron "nations bridge" between Laufen and Oberndorf connects Germany with Austria. It was built in 1902/03 and spans the Salzach River, which has served as the border since 1816. As one of Germany's few remaining Art Nouveau bridges, it is a protected monument.
